Senior student art show at Mount Olive College | 4 months ago The

MOUNT OLIVE ? This fall the Mount Olive College Department of Art and Visual Communication will present an exhibit of paintings by Nelson Reinhardt. The gallery will be presented Sept. 3 to Oct. 31 in the Teresa Pelt Grubbs Gallery. Reinhardt, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, has been a graphic artist for 30 years. He attributes his illustrative style to the influence of the American painter, Edward Hopper.

?I think those who come to experience the exhibit of work by Nelson Reinhardt will be able to enjoy his work on different levels,? explained Bob Murray, associate professor of graphic design. ?First, one can enjoy the simple realism of everyday subject matter. There is no underlying depth of meaning the viewer must figure out. It?s right there for you to see. There is, on another level, the abstract quality of composition, which I think appeals to a basic visual aesthetic in us all. Nelson Reinhardt composes his works with a visually interesting balance of shape and color. He allows us to look at an ordinary, realistic scene or figure and see the painter?s composition of that scene into a relationship of shapes and colors from which we infer space and mass. I think Nelson takes us beyond subject matter into the realm of seeing through the emotional stimulus of art.?

The Teresa Pelt Grubbs Fine Art Gallery is located in Laughinghouse Hall on the campus of Mount Olive College. The gallery is open to the public at no charge from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. p.m. Monday through Friday and by special appointment. For more information, please contact Bob Murray at 919-658-7183.
