David Butler II-US PRESSWIRE
Earlier this week a tweet was sent to HoopsHype.com Twitter account from a savvy old veteran by the name of Michael Finley and it read like this, ?U left me off the free agency list #notdoneyet.? The tweet was sent because Finley said that he could not find his name on the wbesites list of NBA free agents. Finley then followed up on the tweet by saying that he now feels 100% healthy and is ready to return to professional basketball preferably the NBA but not ruling out overseas options as well.
The last time Finley saw any NBA action was a year and a half ago when the Boston Celtics made their Finals run, eventually losing in seven games to the Los Angeles Lakers, in which he really had no affect on the outcome because of his limited playing time due to ankle problems. Finley answered questions about the ankle saying that when he went to Boston his ankle was not 100%. Finley added that after that season with the Celtics he got his ankle worked on, and that he now feels a lot better than he did during his time in Boston.
Like every veteran wishing to return to play at the highest level Finley?s number one option is to return to an NBA team but he also noted that he would not rule out the possibility of playing overseas or even the D-League. Finley has had multiple offers from two D-League teams the Marine Red Claws, and Texas Legends but said he would feel bad about playing their because he would be taking away an opportunity from a young player to gain exposure. Finley also added that he just wishes to return to basketball and that if the right situation comes up, possibly a player-coach, that he would take the opportunity.
Finley will be going to Dallas next week to spend some time with his former teammate Dirk Nowitzki. He also shedded some light on his relationship with Mavericks owner Mark Cuban saying that he still stays in touch with Cuban, and that they are still good friends. Maybe a reunion is soon to come.
